A Few of My Favorite Frames: 2021 Newborns & Maternity in Review | Manhattan, Kansas Photographer
While I myself am not a mother, I’ve spoken with enough parents to know that the love that happens when you become a parent is unlike any other. It’s deep, and it proves cliches like “your heart is living outside of your body” to be all too true.
One of the reasons I value newborn photography is simply because they change so much in those first few days and weeks. It’s incredible how quickly little ones grow and develop, so photography in this case is as valuable as it is time sensitive.
Before the moment when the baby arrives though, when the parents are still expecting, has just as much merit when it comes to photography coverage. A mother’s unique form, the parents’ eagerness and excitement, while it’s all fleeting and unique, it’s also incredibly beautiful (I mean, easy for me to say when I don’t have the heartburn, but just roll with my idealization here, guys).
At newborn sessions, I want to get the first new family photo always, but I also want to be laidback in my approach, photographing the little one in the family’s home, using the blankets, outfits, and props they have available to make each session very unique to both the child and the family. It’s more memorable and sentimental that way.
The cute is excessive, so just like… know that, and enjoy seeing some of the new life of 2021!
