A Few of My Favorite Frames: 2021 Extended Families in Review | Manhattan, Kansas Photographer

When I’m contacted about an extended family session, it’s not uncommon for someone to say: “We haven’t all been in the same place for x amount of years... and we’ve added people!” To have all of your family together, like all of them, the new and the old, is sometimes a feat of strength and olympic level coordination.

But you know that everyone loves each other and when everyone’s together? Well, for the love, will someone please grab a camera?!

At extended family sessions, I have a few goals in mind, those are to 1) get a couple variations of the entire family together, 2) get all the nuclear families as well as individual photos of everyone, and 3) get the happy combinations of cousins, grands holding their grandkids, etc. As a bonus, I always try to make the couples present get some romantic photos taken while all their family watches, because it’s equal parts hilarious and special. *hand heart*

We all know that when all the family gets together, things can get a little weird, so I was sure to share some of that with you too. You’re going to see dudes in tropical shirts with beer, you’re going to see grandparents kissing, and you’re going to see the multiplying result of one small spark of love generations in the past… and that’s just in the first few photos! ;) You’re in for a wild, familial ride that I don’t think you’re going to to forget!
